An explosion rocked the house of a Hamas commander in the Gaza Strip before dawn Monday wounding at least 40 people, Palestinian media reports said.
Hamas blamed Israel for the explosion, which it said targeted Alaa al-Danaf, the commander of the movement’s military wing and totally destroyed his home and other buildings nearby.
The Israeli Army denied all involvement.
The Maan news agency said the wounded were inside and nearby Danaf’s house when the explosion occurred and destroyed Danaf’s home and five others in Dir al-Ballah in central Gaza.
Adham Abu Salmiyya a medical service worker told the news agency that a missile was fired from an Israeli Air Force jet and hit the home.
Before dawn Saturday, the Israel Air Force hit a number of targets located in north, south and central Gaza in response to an upsurge in rocket fire at southern Israel. A Hamas commander was killed in one of the air strikes. He was identified as Hamas commander Issa Batran, 42, who headed the Hamas military wing in central Gaza. |
